Dear D-A-CH Permafrost Community,
We are pleased to invite you to the next conference of the Permafrost Working Group of the German Society for Polar Research (DGP). As a working group, we discussed at our last meeting in Kaprun the difficult English translation of our name and decided to call ourselves the ‘D-A-CH Permafrost Union’ in the future. This name works hopefully well in both languages. Therefore, our annual meeting will be called the ‘D-A-CH Permafrost Conference’ , but we will remain a part of the German Society for Polar Research, of course.
We would like to invite you to the upcoming 14th D-A-CH Permafrost Conference, which will take place from January 10th to 12th, 2024. Please mark this date in your calendars. Hosted by the team from the University of Würzburg, including Christof Kneisel, Julius Kunz, Sebastian Buchelt, Tim Wiegand, and many other helpful hands, as well as PYRN Germany, coordinated by Saskia Eppinger, we would like to welcome you to the beautiful Rhoen region, specifically at Rhöniversum (Conference venue at Auweg 1, 97656 Oberelsbach).
In the great tradition of our meeting, we plan to provide a lot of time and opportunities for networking among young scientists (with an additional workshop) as well as with colleagues who have been involved in Permafrost since a while already. We plan to have an icebreaker event on Wednesday with ‘colourful’ presentations such as expedition photos. Thursday and, if requested, Friday morning will be dedicated to workshop presentations (work in progress, problem presentations, discussion topics), but there will also be traditional result presentations and posters. On Friday, we also plan an excursion to the Rhoen region, ending in the evening.
We invite you to submit abstracts (maximum 300 words, without figures or tables) by October 31, 2023. We plan to implement a registration tool in collaboration with the DGP on our updated website (https://polarforschung.de/arbeitskreise/ak-permafrost/). Therefore, you will receive an email in late summer as a reminder, with updates on the specific technical details. However, there will be no changes to the content requirements, so feel free to start preparing your abstracts.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Rhoen region in January.
Christof, Julius, Sebastian, Tim, Saskia, Ingo, Samuel und Jens
